Allan Kwan, Venture Partner, joined Oak in 2007 after more than 25 years of information technology, telecommunications, and general management experience. Allan consults on investment opportunities and portfolio company operations in Asia. Prior to joining Oak, he served in various executive roles at Yahoo! Inc. spanning six years — first as Regional VP and Managing Director of North Asia operations, then as Vice President of Yahoo! International, following Yahoo!’s $1.7 billion investment into Alibaba.com in August 2005. Prior to Yahoo!, Allan was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Asia.com. Allan also spent more than six years at Motorola Inc., where he served as a corporate officer and led the paging products division in Greater China. Allan’s high-tech career started with a decade of service at Nortel across engineering, product development, distribution, and marketing. Allan holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honor) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia in Canada, as well as a Master of Business Administration (Distinction) degree from the Wharton School, and a Master of Arts degree in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He served two years on the International Advisory Board of Xuhui District in Shanghai, seven year as independent Board member of Linktone (NASD: LTON), and eight years on the board of NeoPhotonics (NYSE: NPTN). Allan currently holds Board positions in SMiT (HKEX:2239.HK) and Oak’s portfolio company Gshopper. He is also on the Lauder Institute Advisory Board at the University of Pennsylvania.
